If you lose your phone
On Top you can lock the account from this website at once, using a passkey or your account code. Unlocking again, or destroying the server key for good, needs both your passkey and your account code and waits 24 to 72 hours first, so a thief who gets one of them cannot undo your lock. Nothing is sent by SMS or email.
On Basic there is no server. Your protection is the phone itself: the hardware-checked fingerprint, the gesture and the passphrase, with wait times that grow after wrong guesses.
Honest limits
- NF has not yet been independently audited. We will say so on this page until it has been.
- Wait times after wrong guesses stop someone using the app. They do not stop an attacker who can run code on a rooted phone, which is why the passphrase and the hardware key matter.
- We say “practically infeasible”, never “impossible”. If you forget your passphrase and lose your recovery key, we cannot get your files back.
